Moc Toe Work Boots, What Are They?
Moc Toe boots were originally made with the idea in mind of protecting that same area around your big toe. The boot maker might have used soft leather or seam to accomplish that. The real important thing to note is that after years of wear, these boots get the job done, so there’ll be plenty of men and women who’ll purchase men’s moc toe shoes for their weekend projects or day-off activities. Here’s what I found out about my toes for this article:
Moc toe work boots feature a hard sole along the edge of the boot that extends down the length of the big toe. They use this “top” of the boot to help protect the top of the foot by limiting movement of the toes, especially the big toe. The benefit is a limited amount of wear because the leather or suede material isn’t exposed. If the wearer is just casually working on their car or doing other informal jobs, then this type of boot is ideal. It allows some mobility but doesn’t allow too much room – which is nice when you’re working on something that’s a little bit more formal.
There are a couple of different styles of moc toe boots on the market, including full grain leather and genuine leather (which have fewer flaws in the leather). I prefer the full-grain leather because it feels nicer and is a bit easier to care for and repair. For safety toe reasons, I prefer the Irish setter. These moc toe work boots also come in men’s sizes 9, up to a Men’s Large. You can also find them in smaller sizes, although I tend to avoid my shoes whenever possible.
